CEMETERY WITH SOCIAL HOUSINGS

YEAR
2016

LOCATION

Manila, Philippines

DESCRIPTION

It was a real challenge and excitement for me dealing with the last and the biggest project during my academical education - the diploma dissertation. I believe it helped me to reveal my strengths and to explore a whole variety of issues regarding architectural design, theory and history of architecture, structural studies, urban design, etc. The project is located in one of the poorest areas of Manila, Philipines. The challenges of the work I faced could be grouped in three major directions - strange and at the same time unique symbiosis between dead and alive, the constant grow and expansion of the population, the annual floodings and specific meteorological conditions. The proposal gives solutions to all objectives and creates possibilities for a decent life for the inhabitants. The local society is the main strength of the project. It is intended as a living and sustainable organism.  In my personal opinion, I had to only direct the project and leave it open for additional interpretations from the residents. Improving significantly locals' the quality of life (alive and dead) through shaping social interactions, communicating model and architecture.

BASEL PAVILION OF CULTURE

YEAR
2015

LOCATION

Basel, Switzerland

DESCRIPTION

The provided plot was small, but that did not make it any less complex. Complicated decisions were made to give the best solutions due to accesses (via two streets and underground passage), various level exits, existing greenery, historical context, etc. The building is not a mere information point, but an experience within itself. The pavilion covers four different main areas - underground, public space, glass structure and roof terrace. The spaces allow hosting cultural events such as receptions, talks and small exhibitions among others. The exterior expression is modest and humble, not taking, but giving advantage to the surrounding historical context. The project was inspired by the Russian suprematists and cubists.

URBAN PLANNING: DEVELOPING OF EXISTING STUDENT VILLAGE

YEAR

2013

LOCATION

Sofia, Bulgaria

IN COLLABORATION WITH Hristina Hristova

DESCRIPTION
We were inspired by the structure of the tree and applied this kind of order in our pedestrian alleys. Our main aim was to encourage the pedestrian movement by creating such a dense system of alleys through all the village. That we used as based point was the existing river where we organized  our city park that serves as a border between the old neighbourhood with houses and a new part where students are supposed to live. The central part and the new university we arranged also following the linear shape of the river.

APARTMENT BUILDING

YEAR
2013

LOCATION

Sofia, Bulgaria

DESCRIPTION

The environment in which it had to design multifamily buildings is a district in Sofia built with buildings from the socialist period  of the country. This fact determined the vision of the building. It is simple and less intrusive to the surrounding buildings. So I decided to develop interesting interior structure. The building is modular - the apartments are modular and create a wide variety of residential  units. For the north façade, I  provided wide corridors for communication, but also for recreation and communication of residents. The ground floor is not intended for habitation. Thus in this way the inner space green is connected with the street and makes it more favorable.

A RESTORATION OF A HOUSE WITH TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE

YEAR
2012

LOCATION

Duzhdovnitsa, Bulgaria

DESCRIPTION

The task of restoration of an existing house in the spirit of traditional Bulgarian architecture demanded a thorough research and analysis. As a result, I had to create a house that fits into the other surrounding buildings and also is responsible for a modern family. Due to the small size of the existing building added another room which smoothly blends into outer space with fireplace. The height of the existing house was not enough - the lower floor  had to be excavated and to the upper floor had to be added a superstructure. The new materials which have been selected for restoration are concrete and glass which fit with the stone walls.

HOUSE BY THE SEA COAST

YEAR
2012

LOCATION

Sozopol, Bulgaria

DESCRIPTION

The light inclination of the slope towards the coast determine terraced building development on the slope. These terraces are defined functionally: the first one is made for day use, the other one for the night, and the last one service rooms. Green pockets are located in between. A large pool was provided for the residents, ended with resting place that overviews the house. The vast terrace aims to give the best views towards the seacoast and complete the house externally. The precise combination of materials: wood, stone, plaster and glass contribute to the pleasure feeling inside and outside the building.

A DISCO CLUB AND A SMALL RECREATION PARK

YEAR
2012

LOCATION

Sofia, Bulgaria

DESCRIPTION

The current usage of the plot is a park for a relaxation and meetings of the living nearby. This project aims to keep the public area above and, in addition, providing new contemporary activities. In the same time, a new environment is designed beneath the gound. The two functions could be defined as fundamentally different - recreational (daily) and entertainment (night). Therefore, this project aims to break the border between them and their blend. Breaking the boundaries is literally conveyed in the vision.

A MOUNTAN BUNGALOW

YEAR
2011

LOCATION

Vitosha Moutain, Bulgaria

DESCRIPTION
The project initially is based on an abstract form that gradually should become an architectural object with a function. The importance is not only the final result but also the process that is separated into three parts: 1. By adding only plane elements to the basic shape (is given) to organise an abstract architectural composition. 2. By adding volumes to organise new abstract composition. 3. To create functional spaces based on steps 1 and 2. My proposal for the final result was a small mountain bungalow that was inspired by the mountain plot I was given.
